Therapy
Paediatric occupational therapy (OT) aims to help children be able to do the tasks they want to or need to be able to do. Our occupational therapists work in a mobile capacity which means that we come to the child and work with them in their natural environment. This allows us to observe any environmental challenges and assess how best to support a child in the environment that they will be within in their everyday lives. This helps with generalising skills outside of sessions and enables our therapists to work with the adults who support the child as well.
Common goals for OT include:
- sensory and emotional regulation
- increasing attention to tasks
- fine motor skills
- gross motor skills
- self-care skills
- communication
- social skills
- community access and safety
- independence in daily routines
We currently work with children aged 12 years and below
Here are some frequently asked questions
How do I access Occupational Therapy?
No referral is required to access our occupational therapy services. Simply contact us via phone, email, social media or web form on the ‘contact us’ page. We are always happy to discuss our services to see if we are the most appropriate support for your child. If our service is appropriate for your child we will place your child on our wait list until a place is available.
What will service look like?
When a place is available you will be contacted and offered an initial appointment. During this appointment we will discuss your child’s goals, their strengths and interests, and a plan will be developed. After the initial appointment we will commence sessions at the agreed upon location and the agreed frequency. If sessions are to take place in a school/kinder/childcare setting without a parent present a copy of the session notes or a summary of the session will be sent to the parents. Sessions are usually 1 hour in duration with additional time allocated for notes and travel.
Fees and Funding:
We charge at the NDIS therapy rate of $193.99 per hour. We are not an NDIS registered provider so are only able to use NDIS funds if you are plan managed or self-managed (not NDIA managed). We also accept private payment, which is charged at the same rate. Time will be charged for note writing and travel. Travel is charged at $97 per hour and capped at 30 minutes.
Where are sessions held?
The location of sessions is determined by the goals of the child and their family. Some settings are more beneficial when working with certain goals. For example, social skills goals are often able to be worked on more effectively in a setting such as kinder or playgroup, while community access goals are better suited in the community setting.
Sessions can take place in the following locations:
- Schools (pending school approval- check with your child's school to see if this is an option)
- Childcare/Kindergarten (again, pending centre approval)
- Home
- Other community settings (shops, playground, play centre, etc.)
